We all take for granted our security and safety unless we have been a victim of crime. Personal security is your responsibility and you have a young family you are accountable for their safety and security no matter where you live.

Crime occurs when an opportunity arise anywhere in the world whether you are in a restaurant and leave your bag open and you go to the toilet. Then you come back and your bag has been taken.

We tend to be negligent on our security until a crime has been committed against us. A daily security routine will prevent you from becoming a victim of crime anywhere you are. Also, our behaviour can account for becoming a victim of crime depending on the environment.

These are the measures to raise your security awareness;

  1. Always be aware of your surroundings.

  2. We tend to use the same routine such same route from work to home. Change the routine regularly.

  3. Ensure you know what to do in case you become a victim of a crime such as calling the police or shouting or raising an alarm for assistance.

  4. Ensure you have your mobile phone charge. The smartphone has an SOS alert to loved ones and you can set this up by using a manual provided. Security companies provide personal tracking devices or you can download them for free on android. Social media such as snap chat have a tracking capability that you can set up.

  5. If you are a female never walk alone at night in an unfamiliar environment and always use a preferred taxi company. Always walk in a group of friends.

  6. Don’t leave your drink unattended in a bar and do not go to an unfamiliar environment. Always tell someone where you are.

  7. Common sense prevails and if suspicious Call for help immediately.

  8. Unless you can defend yourself during an attack, use reasonable force. In a dangerous situation take a flight or hide away from your attackers until help arrives. If you are captured, always obey orders, remain calm and observe.

Preventative methodologies are the best way of staying out of trouble and remain safe in any environment.
